World No. 279 Borna Gojo is now motivated to have a great offseason and hopefully have a breakthrough season in 2022. Gojo, 23, has never been ranked inside the top-200 on the ATP ranking list but he has been one of the best players at this year's Davis Cup Finals.
Gojo has played a big part in Croatia's run to the final at the Davis Cup Finals as he is 3-0 at the tournament. “It gives me a big push, a big lift to do well in the pre-season and believe in myself that I can actually do it.
I can always say I thought I can, but I think I showed now with these wins that I can actually beat those guys. But it's a long season and a long road to get where I want to be next year. This definitely gave me a big push," Gojo said, per the Davis Cup Finals website.
Gojo hopes his approach to the game will change
Gojo, who has never been ranked higher than world No. 208, admitted he could have been more determined in the past. “I don't think it will change my life much, but I hope it will change my approach to tennis because I probably wasn't the most determined guy out there.
“I just hope I'm going to be able to give my hundred percent into tennis and I hope it will work out”. Gojo stunned Alexei Popyrin, Lorenzo Sonego and Dusan Lajovic to help Croatia make the final at the Davis Cup Finals.
“To be honest, I always expected myself to win no matter who I play against. It was the case against Australia, Italy and today. For me, I always put pressure on myself because I know I can play. I'm just happy that I was able to show it today," Gojo insisted.
