Cristian Garin 'very happy' for Juan Martin del Potro

Chilean tennis star Cristian Garin is happy for Juan Martin del Potro as he can't wait to see the Argentine back in action. Del Potro, a former world No. 3, is set to make his long-awaited comeback next week in Buenos Aires.

Del Potro suffered a major knee injury at the Queen's Club in 2019. Del Potro underwent four surgeries since to repair the damage. Despite being 33 and out for nearly three years, del Potro refused to quit and simply walk away from the game.

"I am very happy that Juan Martín is returning to the Tour. I love watching him play. I know he has had injuries and the fact that he is playing again is incredible. I congratulate him. I really want to see him (in action)," Garin told ESPN.

Garin hopes del Potro returns to his best

Del Potro is a Grand Slam champion and a former top-3 player. "I shared some training sessions in Miami with him. I saw him with great enthusiasm. It is great to see him again in tournaments.

He is one of the players that I love to see play. I hope he can come back and be on the level that we all know he has," Garin added. Meanwhile, Garin is set to play in Cordoba this week. Garin, who debuted at the Cordoba event in 2020, is set to make his second appearance on the clay courts of Cordoba.

Garin enjoyed an impressive debut in Cordoba two years ago as he made it all the way after beating Diego Schwartzman in the final. Garin, seeded at No. 3, has a first round bye in Cordoba. Garin awaits the winner of the match between Sebastian Baez and Fernando Verdasco in the round-of-16.

Garin started his season at the ATP Cup, where Chile failed to make it past the group stage. Garin then played at the Australian Open, where he made the thid round before losing in straight sets to Gael Monfils.
