Cristian Garin is now a married man as he has tied the knot with his partner Melanie Goldberg. Over this past weekend, Garin married Goldberg, with whom he has been together since 2021 May. The wedding took place in Zapallar, a popular tourist destination in Chile.
Through her Instagram account, Goldberg announced the news. “I love you forever. 26.11.22,” Garin’s wife wrote in an Instagram post.
Garin's 2022 season
Garin didn't enjoy the season of his life in 2022, but there were some bright moments.
Early in the season, Garin found himself in the middle of a five-match losing streak. Then in early April, Garin ended his five-game losing streak on the clay courts of Houston, where he made the semifinal. After losing early in his next three tournaments, Garin enjoyed a strong run at the Rome Masters, where he reached the quarterfinal.
A bit unexpectedly, Garin made his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon. Garin, who is not really known as a strong force on grass, put up a good run at The Championships and reached the quarterfinal. In the quarterfinal, Garin lost to Nick Kyrgios in three sets as the Australian claimed a 6-4 6-3 7-6 (5).
After beating Garin in three sets, Kyrgios showed his respect for Garin as he noted that the Chilean wasn't an easy opponent to handle. "Honestly, I thought I was playing on the back foot a lot. He is a hell of a player. He is obviously feeling very confident – hell of a tournament for him to make the quarter-finals.
But I felt like I was on the back foot. Got lucky on a couple of points here and there. Could have easily been him standing here. I will just take that and prepare for my next match," Kyrgios said after beating Garin. Garin, a former world No 17, finished the 2022 season ranked at No 84 in the world. It remains to be seen if Garin will enjoy a more impressive 2023 season.
