Argentine tennis player Federico Coria thought Jenson Brooksby definitely deserved a disqualification for what he did during the Miami Masters first round clash. Brooksby wasn't having his best day at the office on Thursday but he was 4-1 up in the third set when he got frustrated after a missed serve.
Brooksby threw his racket, that bounced and hit a ball boy even though the kid tried to avoid getting hit. Brooksby was only hit by a point penalty and fans weren't too thrilled about that as many thought the American deserved to be disqualified.
Brooksby shook off the incident as he managed to claim a 3-6 6-2 6-3 win over Coria.
Coria: A Latin American would have been suspended
“If you assault someone on the field, you should be disqualified directly," Coria said, per Sportskeeda.
"The ATP will have to clarify the rules to follow. I told Carlos that I was disappointed because he didn't even want to ask the ballboy how he was. I don't know why he acted like that. If any 'Latino' had done that, he would have been suspended for three months." Brooksby, one of the fastest rising stars on the ATP Tour, took to social media after the match to apologize for his actions.
"I am truly sorry for my actions out there today," Brooksby wrote. "I will learn from this and continue to grow on and off court. Thanks to the fans for the support out there today! See you on Saturday!" After getting broken twice in the first set and losing the opener, Brooksby bounced back in the second set as he broke Coria three times to force a decider.
The two players struggled with their consistency throughout the match and it escalated in the third set. Brooksby lost his serve three times in the third set but still won the match as he broke Coria five times in the decider.
