Rising French star Hugo Gaston described his week at the Paris Masters as "amazing." Gaston, 21, made it past qualifying event to earn a place in the Paris main draw. Then, Gaston shocked Pablo Carreno Busta and Carlos Alcaraz en route to making his maiden Masters quarterfinal.
In the quarterfinal, Gaston was beaten by world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev. “It was an amazing week for me, to play against the really, really good players,” Gaston told ATP Media. “It’s always different when we play at home.
The atmosphere was just amazing. The crowd was just amazing for me”. Medvedev claimed a straight-set win but had to save three consecutive set points in the first set against Gaston. “The way Gaston plays here, I knew I had to play my best tennis,” Medvedev said on court after the match.

Gaston to debut at the Next Gen ATP Finals
Gaston, who climbed up to a career-high ranking of No. 67 following his quarterfinal result in Paris, has enjoyed a breakthrough season and this week he will be battling for the Next Gen ATP Finals title.
“I’m pretty happy to be here with the best younger players in the world. For me, that’s a really good chance, to play against them,” Gaston said. “Of course I’m really happy about my year, because I’m here.
That’s a really nice year for me and I’m going to enjoy the moment this week”. Gaston doesn't expect to have an easy job in Milan but he is ready for the task. “The first goal for me here is to take a lot of fun on court, because we are lucky to play this kind of event,” Gaston said.
“For me, it’s a [great] chance [just] to be here. Of course I’m going to try to win every match. It’s going to be hard, but we will see”.
