Wimbledon: Carlos Alcaraz earns his first Centre Court win

World no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz is through into the third round at Wimbledon. Carlos faced Alexandre Muller and scored his first victory on Centre Court, beating the Frenchman 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 in two hours and 33 minutes. Carlos won 19 points more than Alexandre and made the difference with his first serve.

The Spaniard claimed 40% of the return points and turned them into two breaks of serve from 14 opportunities. Muller earned six break chances and failed to convert any, giving his everything but hitting the exit door without taking a set.

The Frenchman saved a break point in the encounter's first game and held at 30 at 1-1 to stay on the positive side. Alcaraz faced issues in the fourth game and played against three break points. The young gun denied them and held to avoid an early setback.

Alexandre sprayed a backhand error in the seventh game to drop serve and fall behind.

Carlos confirmed it with a hold at 15 that sent him 5-3 in front and closer to the opener.

The Frenchman erased three set points on serve in the ninth game, and the Spaniard wrapped up the set with a service winner in the next one for 6-4 after 45 minutes. Muller survived a challenging service game at 1-1 in the second set and served well to open a 4-3 gap.

Carlos erased a break point in the eighth game with a service winner, and they served well in the remaining four games to introduce a tie break. Alcaraz earned three mini-breaks and moved 5-0 up with a forehand crosscourt winner at the net.

The young gun earned six set points with a service winner and seized the third with a half-volley winner at 6-2 that sent him two sets to love in front after an hour and 47 minutes. Muller denied three break points at the start of the third set to remain on the positive side.

They stayed neck and neck after that before Alcaraz stepped in in the second part of the set. Alexandre squandered multiple game points at 3-4 and got broken after Carlos' mighty forehand winner. The Spaniard served for the victory at 5-3 and experienced two break points. Alcaraz denied them and converted the second match point with a forehand down the line winner.
