Rising American star Jenson Brooksby dropped just a total of two games against Botic Van de Zandschulp but he insisted it wasn't as easy as the score might suggest. Brooksby, ranked at No. 70 in the world, destroyed Van de Zandschulp 6-2 6-0 to reach the Antwerp quarterfinal.
"It's never as easy as the score looks sometimes, but I thought I started out [well], I just felt strong today," Brooksby said in his on-court interview. "I just didn't let up my focus at all and I think that showed." Brooksby claimed two breaks in the first set and three games in the second set to claim a dominant win over Van de Zandschulp.
"I'm just trying to take it one day at a time," Brooksby said. "[I want to] enjoy the last few tournaments the rest of the season and then just have a fun offseason getting ready for a big next year, hopefully."

Brooksby is aiming to make his third ATP semifinal of the season in Antwerp and also his second final of the season this week.
"Yeah, Brooksby in his on-court interview after this first round, he said ‘I’m so happy I won. I’m so happy I have the opportunity to be in the next round but I’m not really satisfied with the way I played today, so I’m actually going to go to the practice courts right after this and work on my game a little more.’ You see how focused he is out there," Haas told Boardroom.
"You see also that he’s not the most talented player in the world, but he does everything that he can to try to be the best player that he can be and constantly improve. You can kind of sense that. And the way he fights in the way he represents himself out there.
It’s something special and you don’t see that in all the players, all the time, no matter where you’re from."
