No. 2 seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo claimed their first title of the season in Acapulco after saving two match points to beat the top seeds and win a thriller final. Kubot and Melo recovered from a set down in the final against Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah as they edged out the top-ranked doubles team in the world 7-6 (6) 6-7 (4) 11-9 in just over two and a half hours of play.
After four breaks of serve were seen in the first five games of the match -- two on each side -- the teams served much as neither of the two pairs dropped a service in the rest of the final. Kubot and Melo, the 2017 Wimbledon champions, saved a set point in the 10th game of the first set before realizing their second set point in the first set tie-break to win a tight opener.
