Youth Olympic Games: Facundo Diaz Acosta and Hugo Gaston reach final

The Youth Olympic Games at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club have reached the closing stages after the boys' semi-final matches that have been completed on Thursday. The top seeds were beaten in the previous round and it left the door wide open for the other competitors to fight for the gold medal and one of the most important titles on the junior Tour in 2018.

The 8th seed and home favorite Facundo Diaz Acosta is through to his third final of the season following a 6-4 6-1 win over the 6th seed Adrian Andreev. Just like against the world number 1 Chun Hsin Tseng, Facundo dominated with his forehand and he broke Andreev's resistance in the second set to sail through into the title match where he will face the 3rd seed Hugo Gaston.

The Frenchman toppled the 7th seed Gilbert Soares Klier Junior 6-4 6-1 to join Diaz Costa in the title match and this was another impressive triumph for him this week in Buenos Aires, dropping just 18 games in the opening four matches and standing as the favorite in the final as well.

This was their first meeting and Hugo played better and better as the match progressed to secure the place in the final and the medal. Semi-final results:

The 16-year-old Maria Camila Osorio Serrano is through to the semi-final in girls' section after a hard-fought 6-7(5) 6-3 6-1 win over Yuki Naito. Playing against each other for the first time, Osorio Serrano lost the opening set in the tie break but she took charge after that, losing four games in the rest of the match to secure the place in the semis where she will face the 7th seed Clara Burel, the Australian Open and US Open runner-up.

Burel took down the 3rd seed and Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek 6-4 6-2 and it should be a great battle between her and Maria Camila Osorio Serrano for the place in the final. The 4th seed Kaja Juvan lost the opening set against the 15-year-old Oksana Selekhmetova before prevailing 1-6 7-5 6-3 to stay on the title course and set the semi-final meeting with the 5th seed Xiyu Wang who didn't have to step on the course against Daniela Vismane who gave her a walkover.
