World no. 1 Novak Djokovic had to work hard in the quarter-final in Rome, beating a qualifier Dominik Koepfer in three sets and after over two hours.
Djokovic grabbed a break in the third game of the deciding set and the chair umpire made a massive mistake, calling a game for Roger Federer instead of him, fixing the error quickly and not causing a reaction from the Serb.
After a perfect start, Novak started to lose ground at 4-0 in the first set, bringing it home but losing the advantage in the second for an evident frustration. In the end, Djokovic did enough to move over the top in the decider, hoping to raise his level ahead of the semi-final clash with Casper Ruud who prevailed against Matteo Berrettini.
