Spain battled against Canada and South Korea in the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals at home in Valencia, with Carlos scoring one victory from two rubbers.
Alcaraz's first match as world no. 1 came against Felix Auger-Aliassime, with the Canadian scoring a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 triumph in an hour and 50 minutes. Felix bounced back after losing a tight opener, playing well in sets two and three and ousting Carlos for the second time from as many duels.
Auger-Aliassime fired 16 aces and defended all seven break chances. Alcaraz could not follow that pace after the opener, getting broken three times and losing ground in the decider. A couple of days later, Carlos battled against Soonwoo Kwon and prevailed 6-4, 7-6 en route to Spain's 3-0 win.
The young Spaniard came from 4-2 down in the second set, sealing the deal in the tie break and notching his first victory as world no.
1. Carlos broke in the fourth game of the first set and moved 5-2 up with a fine hold. Kwon bounced back and broke at love in game nine, reducing the deficit and moving 40-15 up on serve in the next one. World no. 1 stayed focused and clinched four straight points for his second break and the set.
Soonwoo produced three fine holds in the second set and delivered a break in game three to open a 4-2 gap. Carlos denied a break point in game seven, ending his downfall and pulling the break back in the next one for 4-4. The set went into a tie break, and Alcaraz clinched it 7-1 to seal the deal and celebrate his second Davis Cup win.
