World No 9 Felix Auger-Aliassime said he played "the match of his entire tennis career" against Miomir Kecmanovic at the Swiss Indoors Basel. In the Basel round-of-16, Auger-Aliassime dismantled Kecmanovic 6-1 6-0. After the match, 22-year-old Auger-Aliassime couldn't hide his happiness over his astonishing performance.
"It's tough to play better than that, from my part. For sure the best match I've played in my whole life — not my career, since I'm a little kid! It's a nice feeling. It was a treat to play this level, to play this way in front of you," Auger-Aliassime said after the match, per the ATP website.
How Auger-Aliassime defeated Kecmanovic
After Auger-Aliassime served out the opening game of the match, Kecmanovic served out to love the second game of the match to tie the first set to one game apiece. Then, Auger-Aliassime claimed five breaks in a row and won 11 games in a row to seal the win in an absolutely impressive style.
During his run of 11 consecutive games, Auger-Aliassime didn't face a single break point and allowed Kecmanovic only one game point. It was an absolutely impressive and dominant display by Auger-Aliassime. However, it shouldn't be that surprising since Auger-Aliassime has been on fire in recent weeks.
After winning Florence two weeks ago, Auger-Aliassime also won last week's ATP 250 event in Antwerp. “It’s another great week. I played some great tennis and really fought hard to stand here in front of you today, so big shoutout and thank you to my team.
My coach and my physio [are] here and my whole family that came all week, so thank you very much, it’s been a great week. It wouldn’t be so special of course [if we weren’t] in front of all of you. That’s why we play tennis, to play in front of big numbers of people like this on centre court, so thank you all for coming in big numbers this week," Auger-Aliassime said after winning back-to-back titles. It remains to be seen if Auger-Aliassime can clinch his third consecutive title this week.
