Lorenzo came from 30-0 down in the ninth game and painted a forehand down the line winner to wrap up the set and extend the battle. The Italian broke at love at the start of the fourth set and kept the advantage until the sixth game when the Russian broke back after the rival's double fault.
Andrey played against a break point at 5-5 and erased it with a service winner to open a 6-5 gap. The set went into a tie break, and the servers grabbed the opening 11 points. Sonego leveled the score at 5-5 with a service winner and created a set point with a smash winner at the net.
The Italian forced the rival's volley error at 6-5 for the first mini-break and the set in his bag. They both missed break points in the middle of the final set, and Sonego held at love with a forehand winner for 4-3. Rublev missed a backhand in the eighth game to lose serve and smash his racquet angrily.
