John Isner advances in straight sets, Jack Sock retires in his US Open first round match

Tennis: The American No.1 John Isner easily booked his place in the US Open second round with a straight sets win over his compatriot Marcos Giron but Jack Sock had to retire in his first round match. In the opening round of the 2014 US Open championships, the 2011 US Open Quarterfinalist Isner faced the the reigning NCAA champion Giron, who was making his first ever Grand Slam appearance, as a wildcard.
There were no breaks in the first set as it went to a tie-break and Isner won it 7-5 to go one set up. The 6-foot-10 American served 11 aces, hit 24 winners and 7 unforced errors in the first set, which lasted for only 46 minutes.
In the second set, Isner broke Giron twice and took the second set 6-2 in just 26 minutes, by serving 5 aces, hitting 17 winners and only 3 unforced errors. Isner once again did not face any break point in the third set and it went to tie-break, which Isner won 7-2 by hitting a forehand winner on the match point. He served 26 aces, 0 double faults and hit 60 winners in the match.
