Lorenzo Musetti picks Roger Federer as 'the grass GOAT' ahead of Novak Djokovic

World No 16 Lorenzo Musetti acknowledged Novak Djokovic's grass success but added he believes it is Roger Federer who deserves to be called "the greatest grass-court player ever." At Wimbledon - the most iconic tennis tournament - Federer is a record eight-time champion.

Also, Federer won Halle a record 10 times and he also won Stuttgart once late in his career. Djokovic, who has won the past four Wimbledon editions, now has seven titles at The Championships and he is just one triumph away from tying Federer's all-time record.

“I see Roger as the greatest ever on grass. Even if Djokovic’s last couple years, he’s done an amazing job, but my heart goes with Federer because in a certain way, he reminds me of my game because I’m trying to imitate him," Musetti told Tennis TV.

This month, Djokovic won a record 23rd Grand Slam title at the French Open. Rafael Nadal is now the second on the all-time list with 22 Grand Slams, while Federer finished his career with 20 Slams.

When Federer was asked about Djokovic's most recent success, the Swiss called it "incredible" and tipped the Serb to win more Grand Slams. "Then now Novak pushed it to 23 and he looks like he’s gonna keep on doing that for a long time still to come, which is great.

And I wish him all the best. I think also the way he’s doing it still – he isn’t the youngest anymore, we forget. He looks young and he does it in a young way, but it’s not easy, and I thought it was an amazing victory.

So I couldn’t have been more happy," Federer told the British newspaper i. In early July, Djokovic will kick off his quest for an eighth Wimbledon title. It remains to be seen if Djokovic can tie Federer's Wimbledon record this year.
