Lorenzo Musetti achieved another victory in Bastad on clay: after his efforts on grass at Wimbledon, the Italian made it through to the quarterfinals for the second time this season. In Sweden he didn't arrive in the best physical conditions but, despite this important aspect, he was able to reach the semifinal.
The Italian, seeded third in the main draw, got the better of Austrian Filip Misolic in three sets, who only beat the blue from the first set 6-4 before losing 6-1, 6-2 the next two. After the success, the young 21-year-old gave an interview on the court to the ATP Tour and analyzed the victory: "It was very complicated.
He played very well, especially in the first set. It wasn't easy to break and I didn't succeed until the second set. In the crucial moments he played really well and it wasn't easy." The turning point: "I tried to raise the intensity and pace, because I had to be more aggressive.
I'm happy to have reached the semifinal." The number 16 in the world, who this week will lose the 500 points of the Hamburg ATP won last year in the standings.
Lorenzo Musetti does not sleep for the Bastad discos!
Musetti revealed something really curious that is happening to him in Sweden these days: "I have to say that it's very difficult to sleep, because there are discos around here and there is loud music until late at night.
Other than that, it's a well organized tournament and it's a very nice place. I got to know him and have already played matches before. I like playing here and always have the chance to come back. Time is never the best." And right at the end of the interview it started to rain on the city of Bastad, confirming what the player born in 2002 said.
Now the Norwegian Casper Ruud, winner in 2021, should be waiting for him. Musstti will then move to the North American hard-court for the Summer season, on a surface on which he performs his best tennis.
