Musetti: "I would have liked to challenge Federer"
In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Stampa, Musetti opened up about many issues, including his admiration for Roger Federer, also underlined several times in the past, in other interviews.
The Italian told: "I would never change my tennis. Maybe I need more time on the court than others, but I think it's more rewarding to stay true to yourself. And to the dreams we have in our drawer. A life match? I would have loved it being able to play against Roger Federer is now no longer possible." On more than one occasion, Musetti has reiterated the profound admiration he has for the Swiss legend.
The Italian had the opportunity to train with Federer; never to face him in an official match. Considering the technical characteristics of Musetti, it is not difficult to imagine the model followed over time and that desire to combine concreteness and spectacularity.
It is no coincidence that just after winning his first match at ATP level, against Stan Wawrinka at the Masters 1000 in Rome in 2020, Musetti admitted: "Federer has always been my point of reference." The defense of the title in Hamburg didn't go in the best way, he let himself be surprised by Laslo Djere in the quarterfinals, but the goal is to do well during the American season.
Musetti explained: "It's a long, tiring tour, but I have no points to defend. I've never played in Canada, I have wonderful memories of the Under-18 final in New York and it's an incredible city."
