In Group A in Bologna, Italy is competing this week against Canada, Chile and Sweden.

On Wednesday, Italy suffered a pretty shocking 0-3 defeat against Canada. After Lorenzo Sonego surprisingly lost to Alexis Galarneau in the opening match of the tie, Musetti entered the court needing to clinch a win in order to keep Italy's hopes alive.

Against 158th-ranked Gabriel Diallo, Musetti was the big favorite to win but the 18th-ranked Italian ended up losing. Diallo, a former world No 132, beat Musetti 7-5 6-4 to confirm Canada's victory over Italy. After not a single break point was seen in the first six games of the match, Diallo had the first break point of the match in the seventh game but Musetti saved it.

Diallo maybe didn't get a break in the seventh game but he still earned the first break of the match in the 11th game after breaking Musetti for a 6-5 lead. In the next game, Diallo realized his first set point to win the opener.

After winning the first set, Diallo also claimed the first break of the second set in the seventh game to open a 4-3 lead. Up by a set and a break, Diallo held on to his service for the remainder of the match to complete a two-set win over Musetti.

On Friday, Musetti returned to the court for a doubles match as he and Lorenzo Sonego contributed to Italy's 3-0 win over Chile by beating Marcelo Barrios Vera and Alejandro Tabillo. On Sunday, Italy will be facing Sweden in their final match of the Davis Cup Finals group stage.
