The last months of 2023 have been negative for the young Lorenzo Musetti. The Italian talent has collected only one victory from the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing to the Davis Cup Finals, where he still triumphed with Italy, and lost six consecutive matches.
Musetti has clear ideas ahead of next season and has added a very important figure to his team. This is Corrado Barazzutti, who will work alongside coach Simone Tartarini. In an exclusive interview given to OA Sport, Musetti explained: "Yes, it's true, I was full of criticism as unfortunately happens when you lose a few more games.
Unfortunately, that's how it works in Italy. We know well that you can't reach the top with talent alone. I will have to work harder to achieve greater continuity throughout the year in terms of level and results. The main objective for now is to regain the top 20, then we'll talk about other things."
Lorenzo Musetti's season
At 21, it may happen that you are unable to overcome a difficult moment and encounter a crisis of results.
Many tennis fans have criticized his work, forgetting how much good he has done on clay and grass. Musetti achieved a prestigious victory against Novak Djokovic in Monte Carlo, qualifying for the quarter-finals, and reached the semi-finals in Barcelona, only losing in the decisive set against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Even at the Roland Garros, the Italian did his best and was eliminated by Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 16. The first victory on grass came in Stuttgart, a surface on which he has played very little; as well as the first quarters.
Same trend at the Queen's tournament, which saw him surrender to Holger Rune. Musetti did'nt shine also at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. Anyway, Italy was able to win the title after 47 year, by beating Australian thanks to Jannik Sinner's super performances.
