ATP Madrid: Tsitsipas out, Karatsev in, and the quarters Highlights

Jan-Lennard Struff gets his first semifinal in a Master 1000, defeating in the quarterfinals of the Mutua Madrid Open 2023 Stefanos Tsitsipas, after a battle of three sets, finished with the final score of 7-6(5) 5-7 6-3.
In the first set Struff canceled two break points in the fourth game. At the tie-break, with Tsitsipas who takes up 4-1, but suffers the comeback of Struff who ends up 7-5. The German cancels a break point at the opening of the second set.
In the twelfth game Tsitsipas finds an excellent return performance and manages to get the break, winning the set at 7-5. In the third set, Struff gets the break in the sixth game at the first opportunity. The German maintains the lead and closes at the second match point at 6-3.
Struff finished with 14 aces against 11 by Tsitsipas, but above all the German canceled nine of the ten break points granted to his opponent.
Aslan Karatsev is also in the semifinals of the Madrid Masters 1000. For him it is the first semifinal in a ATP Mastetrts 1000 of his career for the Russian player who beats 7-6(3) 6-4 Zhizhen Zhang and reaches his seventh consecutive victory, having started from the qualifiers and having won five matches in the main draw .
The Russian has scored 30 winners against 9 of the Chinese, 20 with the forehand. There are also 32 free errors, but the aggressive and offensive tennis player from Vladikavkaz paid off in the end. Karatsev who will rise significantly in the standings: he will be number 51 next week.

The women's results
Iga Swiatek reached the final in Madrud. On Spanish clay, the Pole dominated from start to finish against the Russian Veronika Kudermetova and won with a clear 6-1 6-1 in just one hour and 20 minutes of play.
Thanks to this success, the number 1 in the world therefore gains access to the final, where she will challenge Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian is in fact the first finalist of the WTA1000 in Madrid. She defeated the Greek Maria Sakkari and conquered the fifth Final of 2023, targeting her third title, after those obtained in Adelaide and above all at the Australian Open.
