In a recent interview, Jan-Lennard Struff revealed all the pain and torment he experienced while dealing with the consequences of his hip injury. The German had to stop at the best moment of his career due to a serious hip problem.
Struff showed off at the ATP Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo and Madrid, beating players such as Alex de Minaur, Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas. He reached the quarterfinals in the Monte Carlo and the final in Madrid starting from the qualifiers.
Only Carlos Alcaraz prevented him from winning the first ATP Masters 1000 of his career. The pain started to hit Struff at the Challenger in Bordeaux.
The German explained in an interview with the ATP official website: "I thought: Mmmm, this is a strange feeling.
But I finished the match without problems. Then, in the afternoon, I felt a problem. When I woke up, I couldn't not even tying my shoes. It was really hard."

The German continued to try and, after the premature elimination at Roland Garros, he pushed himself to the last act of the Stuttgart tournament, losing an epic match with Frances Tiafoe.
He explained: "During the week I felt more pain when playing doubles. I spoke to the doctors about possible injections for Wimbledon, but they said: You have no chance. You would make the situation worse."
Struff thus gave up on Wimbledon and remained away from the courts for about three months: "Obviously I was having a great season up to that point.
I didn't expect to experience all this and go from the top 150 to the top 30. So it was hard to accept what was happening to me. It was sad to cancel myself first from Wimbledon and then from the US Open: I would have played as the top seed in both tournaments.
It was frustrating."
Struff returned to the court at the ATP 250 tournament in Zhuhai and defeated Cristian Garin on his debut. In the quarter-finals, the German will find Yoshihito Nishioka on the other side of the net: "He is a tough opponent. He has excellent qualities, he is a really good player. It will be a difficult match."
