World No.3 Alexander Zverev felt a bit sorry for Adrian Mannarino after destroying the Frenchman in Montpellier. Zverev, seeded at No. 1, dismantled Mannarino 6-1 6-0 to reach the Montpellier semifinal Zverev kept his perfect record against Mannarino as he now has seven wins and zero losses against the Frenchman.
“Sometimes that is how matches go. At the end I felt a little sorry for Adrian because we have had so many tough matches together and he is in great form at the moment. He reached the fourth round at the Australian Open.
I came here to find my form and I am looking forward to the next two days," Zverev said after the match, per the ATP website.
Zverev routinely handled Mannarino
Zverev broke Mannarino in the opening game of the match and then saved two break points in the following game to take a 2-0 lead.
Zverev then claimed his second break in the third game and served out the fourth game to take a 4-0 lead. Mannarino finally got on the board in the fifth game to reduce the deficit to 4-1. However, that was all from Mannarino as Zverev claimed four breaks in the rest of the match and won eight consecutive games to seal a 6-1 6-0 win.
Zverev plays next Mikael Ymer, who beat Richard Gasquet in three sets. Meanwhile, Alexander Bublik defeated Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4 2-6 7-6 (4) to reahc the Montpellier semifinal. After the match, Bublik spoke highly of Bautista Agut.
“It is always tough to play against Roberto,” Bublik said in his on-court interview. “He is a great competitor, so I knew I had to stay focused and serve well. Thank you to the crowd for being here and helping me once again.
I think I played a great match”. Bublik will be fighting Filip Krajinovic for a place in the Montpellier final. Zverev is the favorite to beat Ymer, while Krajinovic and Bublik are expected to have a tight battle.
