Roger Federer's father Robert reveals he has a great level of admiration for Ben Shelton's tennis and named the American as his new favorite player to watch. Shelton, 21, turned pro just last August but he has already made some very notable things and established himself as one of the brightest young talents of the game.
Shelton plays electric tennis and his infectious personality has quickly made him one of the most popular players on the Tour. On the court, Shelton looks very competitive and aggressive. But off the court, Shelton is very humble and he is even shy at times.
“Wow, it’s just beautiful to look at him. I’m a big fan of his. He’s my new favorite," Robert Federer told Blick.
Shelton joined On, a company backed by Federer
Since 2019, Swiss tennis icon Federer has been investing in On, a Swiss sportswear company.
In March, On announced that Shelton and WTA world No 1 Iga Swiatek signed with the brand. "Iga and Ben represent the next generation of world-class talent. Both players demonstrate On's competitive spirit and embody current and future champions of the sport.
We are pleased to welcome them to the On family," Federer said in a statement when Shelton and Swiatek became members of the On Running family. After joining On, Shelton admitted he was honored to join a sportswear brand associated with Federer.
Also, Shelton revealed that Federer congratulated him when he reached his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at this year's Australian Open. "He sent me some messages during my performance at the last Australian Open, congratulating me on my victories, we also talked about my evolution.
I couldn't be happier to join a brand like On, in which he is also involved, I'm really excited about this new step in my career, I'm sure we will have a lot of fun," Shelton said earlier this year. In October, Shelton picked Federer when asked to pick his favorite among the Big Three.
