Last year his name was known only by us media and insiders, and by those who followed him during his NCAA college career. One year later, Ben Shelton has come a long way, achieving his first important milestones on the ATP Tour.
Following his constant improvements and his position in the ATP ranking, the young American will lead the 2024 ASB Classic. From 8th to January 13 the men will be in action in Auckland for the ATP 250 in New Zealand, as well as in Adelaide.
These are the last events before the start of the Australian Open, scheduled for Sunday 14 January 2024.
The very young Shelton has a bye for the first round and will make his debut facing the winner of the match between Fabian Maroszan and Gael Monfils.
The 20-year-old American is called to redemption after his early elimination in Brisbane. In the first quarter of the draw is the presence of Denis Shapovalov with a wild card. The Canadian player, returning after a long injury, will face the Austrian Sebastian Ofner in the first round.
In the same part of the draw there will be the Spanish derby between Roberto Bautista Agut and Carballes Baena. The second quarter of the main draw is opened by Francisco Cerundolo, number 3 seeded, who is waiting to find out who his first opponent will be.
Australian Max Purcell should be taken into consideration.
The bottom half of the ASB Classic
In the bottom half there will be an interesting all-French derby between Arthur Fils and Richard Gasquet. The winner will face Nuno Borges or an athlete from the qualifiers.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is also on the field, after suffering some knee problems in the United Cup. This is the 4th main seed and will make his debut against the German Altmaier or the American Giron. The last part of the draw is manned by the British Cameron Norrie, who will have to watch out for the young Eubanks, as well as the Dutch Van De Zandschulp.
