Jannik Sinner's 2024 couldn't have started better than this. The young Italian tennis player confirmed all the notable progress shown in the second half of 2023, crowning his incredible moment with victory at the Australian Open.
A success that opens the doors to many other goals for him. Such as qualifying for the ATP Finals, which is already very close for him. The reason is all explained in a rule dedicated exclusively to those who win a Major during the year.
Thanks to the victory at the Australian Open, Sinner is not forced to return to the top eight places in the ATP Race rankings.
For Slam winners, in fact, it is possible to qualify for the Masters Tournament simply by finishing in the top 20 tennis players.
The season is still very long and the Italian could still gain the pass by entering the top-8 at a certain time of the year, as he already did in 2023, but this rule gives further certainty that the talented 22-year-old will most likely be at the next edition of the ATP Finals.
Sinner sees the ATP Finals
Italian fans can start the countdown: in addition to Rome, Sinner will almost certainly return to play at the PalaAlpitour in Turin, which gave him a series of joys just a few months ago. Jannik has already scored 2000 points at the start of the season, thanks to the two weeks in Melbourne in which he dominated most of the matches and showed a certain superiority over all his rivals.
Only in the final match against Daniil Medvedev did the Italian have a really bad time but he had the strength to overcome the two sets deficit. With this triumph, the Italian jumped to the top of the Race rankings ahead of the Nitto ATP Finals: in the Open Era, naturally, something similar had never happened to an Italian tennis player.
By winning the Australian Open the 22-year-old broke many records. One of the prestigious ones concerns the Australian Slam, which had not been won by such a young player since Novak Djokovic's first success in Melbourne, in 2008, when he was just 21 years old.
A triumph, that of Jannik who arrived in his first appearance in a Slam final, but certainly not by chance, but came at the peak of his exponential growth, which appeared truly evident at the end of last season. The world number 4, after winning his first Masters 1000 title in Toronto, then maintained his sensational form until the end of the season, collecting two more titles, in Vienna and Beijing and then with Italy, winning the Cup Davis.
