The Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud, Carlos Alcaraz's opponent on two important occasions (the final of the US Open and the final of the Miami Open, both in 2022 - ed.), underlined a peculiar aspect of the young Spaniard's tennis, in his podcast - done in collaboration with Eurosport - Ruud Talk.
Casper believes that Carlitos understood some of the mistakes he was making up until a few tournaments ago.
"I think he's become more mature. He seems a little bigger, a little stronger physically. He plays very aggressively and very well, but sometimes it seems like he plays to beat himself. He almost pushes himself too far, at least in my opinion.
warning. I'm not criticizing him because he's a great player, but sometimes when you make all these crazy shots, it's tempting to try an even crazier one." According to Casper Ruud, however, Carlos Alcaraz no longer falls into this trap dictated by his game, not with the same frequency as he did in his early days.
"I think he understands that most games aren't won by playing so aggressively one after the other. It's more a question of stability and I think he's playing more calmly than before, and that can be dangerous or when you have the strength and the power together with the intelligence on the pitch that we have seen this year.
It's a great combination," the Norwegian number one concluded in his podcast.
Carlos Alcaraz's playing style
Carlos Alcaraz's tennis is explosive tennis. The Spaniard is aggressive on the pitch, with a game made up of continuous and devastating accelerations.
Sometimes so surprising that they manage to win the main tournaments of the season. He has won two Slams - US Open 2022 and Wimbledon 2023 - four ATP Masters 1000, four ATP 500 tournaments and two ATP 250. A tennis that, however, can hide pitfalls.
Being aggressive can sometimes cost you dearly: it is easier to mislead you by always trying to push as hard as you can.
