Iga Swiatek jokes Hubert Hurkacz is a new chef in the Iga Swiatek bakery as the world No. 1 hilariously remarked that her bakery also works on New Year's Eve while others are closed. On Sunday, Swiatek and Hurkacz sealed Poland's win over Spain by beating Sara Sorribes Tormo and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-0 6-0 at the United Cup.
Over the last two years, Swiatek has won nearly 50 sets in singles matches with a 6-0 scoreline. After delivering 22 bagel sets in 2022, Swiatek won 23 sets with a 6-0 scoreline last season.
Swiatek's impressive bagel numbers led to fans creating an imaginary Iga Swiatek bakery and often photoshopping the Pole in a chef uniform and serving out bagels.
"Well, I’m happy that I’ve somebody right now... Another chef in the bakery so… No, I’m kidding. I mean on Twitter it said that ‘Bakery should be closed on New Year’s Eve’, but here we are," Swiatek joked during her on-court interview.

Swiatek and Hurkacz's mixed doubles performance propelled Poland to a win
In the first match of the Poland and Spain tie, Davidovich Fokina upset Hurkacz 3-6 6-3 6-4 to give Spain an early lead over Poland. With Poland facing a loss, Swiatek delivered in the following match as she beat Sorribes Tormo 6-2 6-1.
Then, the time came for the tie to be decided in a mixed doubles match. After delivering a great performance in singles, Swiatek had another impressive performance in mixed doubles as she and Hurkacz won the match without dropping a single game.
Now, Swiatek and Hurkacz are 2-0 as a pair at this year's United Cup. A day earlier, they beat Beatriz Haddad Maia and Marcelo Melo 6-4 6-3.
By beating Brazil and Spain, Poland finished Group A with a 2-0 record and reached the quarterfinal as the Group A winner. It remains to be seen if Swiatek and Hurkacz can clinch more mixed doubles wins and potentially lead Poland to the United Cup title.
