Sloane Stephens has revealed that she would instantly walk away from pro tennis if a second Grand Slam win happened for her.
Stephens, who will be turning 31 in March, landed her first and lone Grand Slam title in 2017 when she defeated fellow American Madison Keys 6-3 6-0 in the US Open final. The following year, Stephens also came close to lifting her second Grand Slam title but fell just short in her bid after Simona Halep handed her a 3-6 6-4 6-1 loss in the 2018 French Open final.
Since the 2018 French Open final, Stephens has been to just three Grand Slam quarterfinals. Stephens' most recent Grand Slam quarterfinal came in 2022, when she made the French Open quarterfinal before losing to Coco Gauff.
"There's more, I feel like there's more. But let me tell you this, if I win a Grand Slam, I’m never playing tennis again. That would be the last, I’ll be like: 'I'll see you guys never, I’m out,'" Stephens said on Cinema Sessions.
Stephens' coach: I get my bonus and I also quit if that happens
Reacting to Stephens' revelation, coach Kamau Murray funnily said he would ask for a bonus and also quit coaching if the 2017 US Open champion won her second Grand Slam.
"If you win a Grand Slam, I’m going to ask for my bonus check and I’m going to quit the next day too. Because my kids and my wife, they miss me. So, as soon as you win again, cut the check and let me go about my business," coach Murray said.

At this year's Australian Open, Stephens started her campaign with wins over Olivia Gadecki and Daria Kasatkina. But then, Stephens lost a tight three-setter to Anna Kalinskaya in the third round and failed to make the second week at Melbourne Park.
It remains to be seen if Stephens can once again make a deep run at the French Open when the time comes for the second Grand Slam of the season.
