Juan Carlos Ferrero is a tennis coach and former Spanish tennis player, former number 1 in the ATP world ranking, the twenty-first since the introduction of this ranking: he reached this position following the victory at the Roland Garros in 2003 and the defeat in the final at the US Open of the same year. He is nicknamed Mosquito for his speed and agile and snappy physique.

2003 was his best year yet. In the clay court season he won the title in Monte Carlo and Valencia, and then finally conquered the tournament for which experts had long considered him predestined, Roland Garros. In the final he was up against the surprise of the tournament, Dutchman Martin Verkerk, whom he easily defeated.

During the summer he reached the round of 16 on grass at Wimbledon, a traditionally difficult tournament for him. To crown an exceptional year he reached the second final of a Grand Slam, at the US Open, eliminating, among others, Hewitt and Andre Agassi in the semifinals and being defeated by Andy Roddick.

He also won the indoor title in Madrid by beating Roger Federer in the final and was awarded Spanish Sportsman of the Year by King Juan Carlos I of Spain. He finished the year at no. 3 of the ranking.

Currently he is the coach of Carlos Alcaraz.
