After losing in the first round of the Transylvania Open, Romanian player Jaqueline Cristian, nicknamed Countess Draculina for wearing a Dracula-themed cape during her on-court entrances at TO, split with her coach Thomas Drouet.
Drouet announced his departure from Cristian's team on Instagram. "Jaqueline and I have decided to end our cooperation. I was very happy to share with you many great moments. I wish you all the best Draculina," Drouet captioned a recent post on Instagram.
The split comes after the cooperation between Cristian and Drouet looked to be working again as Cristian won the title at Le Neubourg.
"This trophy means a lot. Coming back after knee surgery, 6 months of rehab, pain, a lot of doubts, crying, hoping, training hard to get back on court to do what I love the most ..winning this feels just amazing. This trophy’s about team work and trusting the process!
@thomdrouet @smartrehabovidiukurti @ionbogdancodorean @luminitaenache71 @radu.chiriiac @georgiana2247 I could’ve not done this without you and I am very thankful to have you in my life! Now, let the comeback season begin!
I missed it so much!" wrote Cristian on Instagram after winning the title.
Cristian knocked out in the first round of Transylvania Open
Xiyu Wang, World No.
59, is off to a good start in the Transylvania Open. She defeated Jaqueline Cristian, a local fan favorite, in symmetrical sets, 6-3, 6-3. The Romanian had her moments, but Xiyu Wang played at an outstanding level. The young Chinese, considered a representative of the new wave, served brilliantly, didn't give Jaqueline a chance to break, and controlled rallies with her superb forehand - one of the most beautiful in the WTA tour.
Xiyu, who is only 21, reminded us she's having a fantastic season, with victories over Sakkari, Azarenka, and Krejcikova.
