Stefanos Tsitsipas admits he is working on finding a way to beat Novak Djokovic and other top players who are contending for Grand Slam titles and the world No 1 ranking. Tsitsipas, ranked at No 6 in the world, turned 25 in August and he is no longer one of the youngest players on the Tour.
For Tsitsipas, the clock is ticking as the Greek has yet to accomplish his dreams of becoming a Grand Slam champion and the world No 1. While Roger Federer is retired and Rafael Nadal is coming off surgery, Djokovic is still dominating and young stars such as Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune have also arrived and they are targeting the biggest accolades.
“Right now, we have a lot of great players on the tour playing a lot of great tennis. That is probably the most challenging period of my tennis career so far, to find ways to beat those guys, to find ways to pass them in the rankings," Tsitsipas said on The AO Show podcast.
Tsitsipas hopes to beat Djokovic at the Australian Open
Earlier this year, Tsitsipas made his second Grand Slam final at the Australian Open. Unfortunately for Tsitsipas, it didn't end the way he wanted as Djokovic beat the Greek in straight sets for his 10th title at Melbourne Park.
“Maybe also show our real potential, finally, once, all I’m asking is just once. I hope we can just find a way to get there and start owning our own zone," Tsitsipas said. Melbourne has a very large Greek community and Tsitsipas always feels like at home there and considers the Australian Open his "home Slam." “(Australia) is one of my favourite destinations, my ‘home slam’ is located there.
