Stefanos Tsitsipas is still tormented by back problems that have compromised his path at the 2023 ATP Finals. The Greek tennis player in fact ended his season with the painful withdrawal at the Nitto ATP Finals, during the second Round Robin match with Holger Rune.

And it seems there are also doubts about the upcoming 2024 tennis season, which will begin in Australia. Present at the World Tennis League, a mixed team exhibition event, the current number 6 in the ATP world ranking initially decided to play only doubles, wearing a bandage around his abdomen.

After the first day of competition, Tsitsipas did not play a singles match and he was officially replaced by Lloyd Harris. Tsitsipas may have wisely chosen to stop as a precaution so as not to compromise his start to the season or, otherwise, his presence in Australia would be considered at risk.

The Greek, we recall, reached the last act of the tournament in the last edition of the Australian Open and will therefore be called upon to defend many points.

The injury suffered at the ATP Finals 2023

Tsitsipas was not at his best even before the match he clearly lost against Jannik Sinner in Turin and received several criticisms for not taking a step back before saying goodbye to the Masters Tournament.

Tsitsipas tried to take the field in the match with Rune, but stopped after just 17 minutes and 3 games played. The crowd present in Turin did not react well and booed the Greek several times. "The injury was painful, really painful, because I couldn't finish the last tournament of the year.

So it had a big impact on my body. In the days following the ATP Finals I had difficulty waking up and getting out of bed. In fact, the pain I felt for a week or two was very severe,” Tsitsipas said in a recent interview.

After Christmas, the Greek will evaluate with his team his physical conditions, to understand whether or not they may affect his presence in Australia.
