Four members of the University of Virginia men's tennis team have earned an invitation to compete in the individual NCAA championships, which will be held May 22-27 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. Junior Chris Rodesch (Angelsberg, Luxembourg) is a 9-16 seed in the singles championship.
Youngsters Iñaki Montes (Pamplona, Spain) and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg (Zurich, Switzerland) also earned singles championship bids. Montes and graduate student Ryan Goetz (Greenlawn, New York) earned automatic Atlantic Coast Conference qualification into the doubles championship as a top-tier team in the ACC.

What happened on Wednesday May 24th
Rodesch faced No. 32 Axel Nefve of Florida on the outdoor courts. Nefve, a transfer grad who played four years at Notre Dame before moving to Florida, won the first set 6-4, but Rodesch answered with 6-4, 6-4 wins in the final two sets to advance to the quarterfinals.
the final . Rodesch will face No. 41 Alex Bernard of Ohio State in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Montes and Goetz started their double-delayed opener against No. 23 Stanford's Arthur Fery and Nishesh Basavareddy on outdoor courts, making the first set 6-3 before weather delayed the game again.
After moving indoors, Fery and Basavareddy took the second set 6-0 and then the super tiebreak 10-5 to win the match and eliminate Goetz and Montes from the tournament. Goetz and Montes finish the season as All-Americans, earning the honor by virtue of their 5-8 seeds in the tournament.
