Iñaki Montes de la Torre of University of Virginia gets the Academic All-American

University of Virginia junior men's tennis player Iñaki Montes de la Torre was named to the 2023 Academic All-American men's tennis team, as a selection by College Sports Communicators. Montes was one of 18 student-athletes to receive Academic All-American honors this season, being named to the second team of five players.

Montes helped lead the Cavaliers to their second consecutive NCAA championship and third consecutive ACC championship. He picked up the game-winning run in Virginia's win over Ohio State in the NCAA Finals, as well as a doubles run against the Buckeyes.

He is an ITA Doubles All-American and was ranked in the top 10 in both singles and doubles this season. He was named the 2022-23 WINA Male Athlete of the Year for the Virginia Athletics Department at last month's Hoos Choice Awards.

Montes is the third player in program history to be voted an Academic All-American, joining Carl Söderlund, who earned back-to-back honors in 2019-20, and Scott Lebovitz in 1997. This is the first year that the College Sports Communicators honor All-American in tennis after the sport was previously part of the At-Large category for honors.
