Jelena Ostapenko is seemingly a big fan of adrenaline as the 26-year-old admits she likes fast driving, rollercoasters, and similar activities.
On the court, 2017 French Open champion Ostapenko is well-known for her extremely aggressive game style. Also, Ostapenko is known as someone who is never afraid to share her real thoughts and display how she is feeling in any moment on the court.
On Thursday, Ostapenko saw off world No. 41 Marta Kostyuk 7-5 6-3 to reach the Adelaide International semifinal. During her on-court interview, No. 6 seed Ostapenko was asked how she is living her life off the court and specifically asked if she is a fast driver.
“Drive? Yes. I like rollercoasters and those kind of things... Of course, I like some crazy things like driving fast as you mentioned. But in general, when I’m living my normal life, I’m more thinking and probably more mature than on the court," Ostapenko said on the court following her Adelaide win over Kostyuk.
Ostapenko acknowledges she can get ´very emotional´ on the court
In the same interview, Ostapenko acknowledged that she can get "really mad at myself" on the court after missing some balls. Further addressing her demeanor, Ostapenko underlined being "very emotional" at times comes from badly wanting to win.
Meanwhile, Ostapenko now owns a 2-0 head-to-head against Kostyuk.
Against Kostyuk, Ostapenko failed to serve out for the first set when leading 5-3. However, Ostapenko was able to keep her focus and break Kostyuk again in the 12th game - the game in which the Ukrainian was serving to stay in the opener.
After winning the first set, Kostyuk started the second set with a 2-0 lead but Kostyuk broke instantly in the third game. But Kostyuk getting the break back didn´t change much as Ostapenko broke the Ukrainian again in the fourth game and then held on to her serve for the remainder of the match to complete a two-set win.
Ostapenko plays next against Ekaterina Alexandrova.
