Chilean tennis player Nicolas Jarry is one of the big surprises of 2023. His rise on the circuit is growing, his results are really very positive and this week the talented South American tennis player reached the quarter-finals at the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000.

A beautiful victory in a South American derby against Diego Schwartzman thanks to which Nicolas achieved his Best Ranking, as number 21 in the world. One gets the impression that the debut in the Top 20 is a matter of weeks if not days and certainly the scoreboard of the Chinese tournament is entirely on the Chilean's side.

A touching moment occurred when Jarry's little child went on the court, and asked his father to be hugged, causing much tenderness among the crowd, fans and media present. Here is the video shared on X by the ATP Tour account:

Jarry's words at the press conference

The elimination of Carlos Alcaraz changed everything and now Nicolas starts at least on par in the match against Grigor Dimitrov.

The tennis player spoke in the usual post-match press conference and made the following statements: "I'm happy to have reached the quarter-finals, it's a good result, I've reached them a couple of times this season and I'm very happy.

I'm trying to improve and have fun at the same time, I'm playing great tennis and I'm grateful for all this. It was a tough challenge mentally, but I was able to come back strong in the third set. I gave it my all and got a precious victory." With this success Jarry overtook Cerundolo and thus became the South American number one: "I don't look much at the rankings, I go beyond that.

I prefer to concentrate and do well but at the same time enjoy life. Tennis is a difficult sport, it is not easy to do many things alone both on and off the court. I'm just trying to have fun and not think about anything else.

My birthday? I'm very happy, this is my third birthday in Shanghai and I usually live it alone, away from everything and everyone. Being with my family today is really special. Since I started a family I have a different perspective on life and I'm trying to be stronger. It's something that goes beyond winning games!"
