Played first senior tournament at a $25k ITF tournament in Bucharest. In 2016 she made her Grand Slam debut at US Open, winning through qualifying and then upsetting Cirstea in the first-round; her run was ended by fellow Romanian Niculescu in the next match. At Brasil Tennis Cup in Florianopolis, she reached her first WTA Tour semi-final, defeating former world number 1 Jelena Jankovic along the way before losing to Timea Babos. In her other main draw appearances in 2016 she reached the second-round in Rio de Janeiro (l. Arruabarrena) and Stanford (as qualifier, l. Riske), and suffered first-round exit in Mallorca and Tashkent. She ended the season ranked No.118.

2017 marked her third Top 200 season, finishing at a career-best No.115. She reached the semifinals in Bucharest (l. Goerges) and made the second-round at Wimbledon (l. Garcia), US Open (l. Niculescu) and New Haven (as qualifier, l. Flipkens).

She began her 2018 campaign by achieving her best Grand Slam as she reached the third-round at Australian Open where she also scored her career-best win over No.11 Mladenovic in the opening match.
