Jil Teichmann reached the second round of the Palermo Open on Monday. Meanwhile, American Grace Min was the first to advance to the round-of-16 in the Italian city.

Bronzetti’s fellow countrywoman, Giulia Gatto-Monticone, however, failed to make it past the first round.

Australian Maddison Inglis defeated Gatto-Monticone 6-2, 6-3 in their opener. In the second round, Inglis will play either top seed Danielle Collins or German qualifier, Katharina Gerlach. Romanian Jaqueline Cristian also came through to the second round with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Italian wildcard Nuria Brancaccio.

For a place in the last eight, she will play the Chinese qualifier, Qinwen Zheng. Zheng ranked 171st in the world, scored the first top-100 win of her career at the Palermo Open by ousting second seed Liudmila Samsonova 6-3, 6-2 in the first round.

The teenager, who’s playing in the main draw of a WTA tournament for the first time in her career, needed an hour and 33 minutes to beat the Russian. She converted four of the seven break points, she had on Samsonova’s serve while saving all but one of the 10 break points, she faced in the match.
