Romania's Ana Bogdan shared a touching message to Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska following their Lyon clash. Bogdan, ranked at No. 97 in the world, took on Yastremska in the Lyon first round on Tuesday. Bogdan won the opening set but Yastremska fought back to win 3-6 7-6 (7) 7-6 (7).
Just a few days ago, Yastremska witnessed bombing of her hometown Odessa. Yastremska and her younger sister fled the country late last week and got to Lyon. After losing, Bogdan opened up about how she felt during the match and expressed her desire to see peace in the world.
"Today was meant to be your day. And you deserve it totally! It was the hardest match I've ever played in terms of feelings and holding emotions. I had to put up a fight because this is a competiton... But somehow I knew it was not fair.
May God protect you, your sister, your family, and all the other people! May we all live in peace," Bogdan posted on her Instagram Story.
Yastremska also opened after beating Bogdan

Also, Yastremska admitted her heart stays in Ukraine. “My heart stays at home, my mind is fighting here," Yastremska said after the match, per WTA Insider. Bogdan made a fast start to the match, having broken Yastremska in the first and fifth games to take a comfortable 4-1 lead.
Yastremska got one break back in the sixth game but lost her serve once again in the eighth game as Bogdan won the opener. Bogdan had a match point on Yastremska's serve in the 12th game of the second set but the Ukrainian saved it to force a tie-break, in which she realized her third set point to force a decider.
Yastremska lost her serve in the opening game of the third set but broke Bogdan in the sixth game and the set eventually went into another tie-break. In the tie-break, Yastremska saved a second match point before realizing her fourth match point to complete a comeback win.
