British tennis star Cameron Norrie felt extremely proud after lifting his maiden ATP title in Los Cabos. Norrie, seeded at No. 1, demolished rising American star Brandon Nakashima 6-2 6-2 in the Los Cabos final. Norrie was playing his fourth ATP final of the season as previously he ended runner-up in Estoril, Lyon and Queen's.
"I feel very happy. I couldn’t be more proud of myself, proud of my team and how I handled the week. I am happy how I improved every match. I used my experience a little bit today and I think it showed in the match," Norrie said, as quoted on the ATP website.
"I think it’s a huge bonus. It was always a goal of mine to get my first title. Obviously I’d lost three finals this year, so it was very nice to get over the line today. I’m going to enjoy it tonight and then [go] straight back to work."
Norrie dominated Nakashima
Nakashima served out the opening game of the match but Norrie then claimed back-to-back breaks and won five games in a row to take a 5-1 lead.
Nakashima served out the seventh game to end Norrie's run but the Briton served out for the opener in the following game. Norrie then broke Nakashima in the third game of the second set to take a 2-1 lead but the American broke back in the fourth game.
However, Norrie kept his focus after getting broken as he claimed back-to-back breaks to finish the match on a four-game winning run. "I think I played very solid throughout the whole week. I improved, I think my returns were very, very solid this week.
It's obviously a big step for me to get my first title, so I couldn't be happier," Norrie said. "I'm happy with my level and how I handled the situation, especially coming in as the No. 1 seed. It's not easy to be the favourite. "I went out there and took care of business when I needed to."
