Paris Masters sensation Hugo Gaston added to France Davis Cup Finals team

France Davis Cup captain Sebastian Grosjean has added rising star Hugo Gaston and Adrian Mannarino to the French team for the Davis Cup Finals. Grosjean initially nominated five players and one of the five players that made the list was Ugo Humbert.

Two weeks ago, Humbert put an end to his 2021 season and pulled out of the Davis Cup Finals. "At this point it's beter to take care of myself, to look forward to a great 2022 season, which is why I took the very hard decision to and my 2021 season," Humbert announced.

"It's frustrating to retire from Bercy and the Davis Cup Finals this year, the kind of events I'm waiting for and I love the most. I wish all the best and a lot of success to all the French team!"

Gaston, Mannarino get their wish fulfilled

Gaston is set to make his Davis Cup debut whole Mannarino represented France at the Davis Cup in 2018.

After losing to Gael Monfils at the Paris Masters last week, Mannarino made himself available to Grosjean. "Of course it would be a great satisfaction to be selected for the team. There are all the French players who want to do well and play well at the end of the year," Mannarino said last week.

"The captain will choose a player based on the results here, and maybe after that. It is an important goal and something that would make me really happy." Gaston had a great campaign in Paris as he made his maiden Masters quarterfinal before losing to Daniil Medvedev.

Gaston's run to the quarterfinal included wins over Pablo Carreno Busta and Carlos Alcaraz. "It was an amazing week for me, to play against the really, really good players,” Gaston told ATP Media. “It’s always different when we play at home. The atmosphere was just amazing. The crowd was just amazing for me
