Pablo Carreno Busta reveals what led to him retiring his Cordoba opener

Spanish tennis star Pablo Carreno Busta has revealed what went wrong for him at the Cordoba Open on Wednesday. Carreno Busta, seeded at No. 4, didn't have a memorable debut in Cordoba as he was forced to retire his opening match at the tournament.

The Spaniard led 7-6 (3) 0-1 against world No. 280 Cachin when he called it a match due to a shoulder injury. Reflecting on his Cordoba round-of-16 retirement against Cachin, Carreno Busta said, per Tennisform Twitter: "The warning came slowly.

In the beginning I felt very good but with my forehand I felt like it hurt a bit. I hit one or two forehands and I could barely hit the third one..." World No. 23 Carreno Busta started the match in style as he broke the Argentine in the opening game of the match.

The Argentine qualifier blew two break points in the sixth game but broke back Carreno Busta in the 10th game when the Spaniard was serving for the opener. Cachin then saved three break points in the 11th game, before he blew four set points in the following game.

Carreno Busta dominated the tie-break after saving four set points in the 12th game as he lost just three games during the tie-break. Carreno Busta then made a decision to retire after getting broken in the opening game of the second set.

Qualifier Cachin is enjoying a great week as he has reached his first-ever ATP quarter-final. Cachin will now have a great chance to make his first-ever ATP semi-final as next up for him will be world No. 112 Juan Ignacio Londero.
