Dutch tennis player Botic van de Zandschulp was withdrawn from Dubai following a reactive COVID-19 test. Van de Zandschulp, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 50 in the world, was supposed to make his Dubai debut this week.
Following the withdrawal of van de Zandschulp, a place in the Dubai main draw opened for Alex Molcan, who will clash Lloyd Harris. Van de Zandschulp is following all the protocols and he plans to stay in isolation until he test negative.
Van de Zandschulp is feeling fine at the moment and having no symptoms. "Unfortunately I will not be competing in Dubai this week due to a reactive COVID-19 test. At the moment I am following the Qatar rules and will stay in isolation until I test negative.
I have no symptoms whatsoever, I am fine," van de Zandschulp tweeted. "Stay safe everybody!"
Van de Zandschulp played in Doha last week
Van de Zandschulp competed in Doha last week, where he beat Thomas Fabbiano in the first round, before losing to Marin Cilic in the round-of-16.
Cilic, a former world No. 3, saw off van de Zandschulp 6-3 7-5 to reach the Doha quarterfinal. The first break points of the match were seen in the eighth game, when Cilic realized his second break point to take a 5-3 lead.
After claiming the first break of the match, Cilic saved three break points in the ninth game before realizing his first set point to win the opener. Van de Zandschulp saved two break points in the opening game of the second set and then earned his first break of the match in the second game.
Van de Zandschulp twice had a chance to go up by a double break but he missed out on break points in the fourth and seventh games. Van de Zandschulp led 5-2 after the opening seven games of the second set but then Cilic responded with back-to-back breaks to overturn the deficit and escape with a straight-set win.
