Carlos held at 30 in game nine to forge another lead and broke his rival in the next one to seal the deal and advance into the last eight. The Spaniard will face the most challenging opponent in the quarter-final if Jannik Sinner beats Alexander Zverev later today.
Alcaraz and Sinner met in last year's quarter-final in New York, with the Spaniard saving a match point and prevailing after a thriller.
