World no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will compete in his sixth Major quarter-final at the US Open. The 20-year-old took down Matteo Arnaldi 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 57 minutes, advancing to his third straight quarter-final in New York.
Alcaraz controlled the pace at Arthur Ashe Stadium, losing serve once from the only chance offered to his opponent and delivering four breaks from 11 opportunities. The Spaniard hit 31 winners and 22 unforced errors, taming his strokes nicely and leaving the lower-ranked player behind.
Both players served well in the opening five games, with the Italian following the world's best player's pace. Carlos secured a break in the sixth game, opening a 4-2 gap and settling into a fine rhythm. Alcaraz served well in games seven and nine to wrap up the first set 6-3.
Carlos produced four comfortable holds in the second set and built the advantage with an early break.

Arnaldi stepped in on the return in the third set's early stages, breaking Alcaraz at love in the third game and moving 2-1 in front. Carlos stayed focused, breaking back in the fourth game and gathering a boost. They served well in the upcoming three games before Arnaldi denied a break point in game eight, locking the result at 4-4 and doing better than in sets one and two.
Carlos held at 30 in game nine to forge another lead and broke his rival in the next one to seal the deal and advance into the last eight. The Spaniard will face the most challenging opponent in the quarter-final if Jannik Sinner beats Alexander Zverev later today.
Alcaraz and Sinner met in last year's quarter-final in New York, with the Spaniard saving a match point and prevailing after a thriller.
