Wimbledon sensation Christopher Eubanks admits it is "weird" seeing people approach him back home in Atlanta and giving him recognition and praise. Eubanks, 27, won his first ATP title on the grass courts of Mallorca before making his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon.
Following his Wimbledon quarterfinal run, Eubanks improved to a career-high ranking of No 31 in the world. Interestingly, Eubanks broke into the top-100 for the first time in his career just in early April. At this past Wimbledon, Eubanks stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas and Cameron Norrie before falling just short to Medvedev in a five-setter.
Eubanks after returning home: It's very weird
"As I'm getting ready to pay, I stand up, a guy sitting directly next to me sees me and I guess he turns to me and he goes, 'Hey, my son also went to West, we're so proud of you like keep it up', and gave me a fist bump and I was like, 'Man this is different, this is weird.
So I've had to adjust with a little bit of that and since being home out of the ordinary. Earlier, a couple hours ago, I went to a native one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, and a guy saying he went to high school with my older brother and they were supporting me and I'm like, 'Okay, thanks.'
It's weird, very, very weird. It's something I'm not used to, but I think I'm handling it fine," Eubanks said on Behind the Racquet podcast. After concluding his Wimbledon run last week, Eubanks returned home. This week, the Atlanta Open organizers that Eubanks has been to the tournament field.
