Christopher Eubanks says Roger Federer has had the biggest impact on tennis but added he believes the stats show that Novak Djokovic is the greatest player of all time. Federer is considered the ultimate tennis icon and many credit the Swiss for elevating tennis to another level and making it a more popular sport across the world.
But Federer finished his career with 20 Grand Slams, while 36-year-old Djokovic is a record 23-time Grand Slam champion. Rafael Nadal is also ahead of Federer in the Slam race as the Spaniard has 22 Majors. In recent times, there has been a lot of debating about whether the GOAT debate should be closed now that Djokovic owns the most Grand Slams.
While some believe Djokovic now undoubtedly deserves to be considered the GOAT, some are still arguing that Federer doesn't need the all-time Grand Slam record for the GOAT status since he is the ultimate tennis icon.
Eubanks explains why he thinks Djokovic is the GOAT, not Federer
"You can make an argument that it's Federer, because Federer changed the way that, you know, professional tennis players were viewed globally.
He was a global icon. But in terms of just being a tennis player and titles, records, weeks at No. 1, prize, whatever you name it. He has the numbers. So, it's tough to really make an argument based on fact, but somebody can make the argument to say Federer meant more to the sport of tennis, I am not really going to argue with you on that, if that's what your GOAT means.
Mine is just the best all around tennis player. You can take a tennis player, drop them on any surface against any opponent on any day in any year, and you are probably going to be like 'Novak is probably going to be the best one out of everyone'
