World no. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas is off to a winning start to the season. After missing the start of the United Cup, Stefanos stepped on the court against Canada and defeated Steven Diez 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 17 minutes. Tsitsipas wished to leave a back injury behind ahead of the Australian Open, and he looked good in this one, controlling the pace on serve and return.

The Greek dropped only three points behind the first serve while struggling a bit on the second. However, he denied the only break point and turned 44% of the return points into three breaks from three opportunities. Tsitsipas held at 30 in the encounter's first game and painted a backhand down the line winner in game two for two break chances.

The Canadian denied them and erased the third after the Greek's loose forehand.
