Iga Swiatek described her Beijing match against Caroline Garcia as "really intense" and credited her "intuition" as one of the biggest reasons why she was able to complete a big comeback against the Frenchwomen. Swiatek, seeded at No 2, came back from a set down to beat ninth-seeded Garcia 6-7 (8) 7-6 (5) 6-1 in the Beijing quarterfinal. "For sure it was really intense.

We played really fast. There was no time sometimes to think or analyze. I'm happy I used my intuition a lot. For sure a lot of tight moments. In both of these first sets, every ball counted. I'm happy that in the third I could just go for it," Swiatek said after beating Garcia.

In the first set, not a single break point was seen and a tie-break had to decide the winner of the opener. Garcia had two consecutive set points at 6-4 in the tie-break but Swiatek responded by winning the next three points to take a 7-6 lead and earn her first set point.

Garcia saved Swiatek's first set point but also failed to realize her third set point at 8-7. Leading 9-8, Garcia finally realized her fourth set point to win the first set. After losing the first set, Swiatek claimed two early breaks in the second set and had a 4-1 lead.

Down by two breaks, Garcia refused to quit as she managed to work her way back into the set and force another tie-break. In the second-set tie-break, Swiatek had a 5-1 lead before Garcia won the next four points to tie the tie-break to five points apiece.

However, Swiatek was able to keep her focus and win the next two points to win the set and force a decider. After escaping a straight-set defeat, Swiatek broke Garcia in the second and sixth games of the third set en route to completing a big comeback win.
